Askeli
travel office is a friendly, family run office situated
on the harbor front, in the old town of Poros. In high summer
we are open from 08.30 until 22.00 hrs and there is always someone
there who speaks fluent English. The office has a bureau de change,
and a card telephone service for local and international calls.
Also available are postage stamps, maps and guide books. We also
offer a wide range of guided tours planned to help you learn something
about this very special area of Greece, and often at prices lower
than if you were to go on local transport. These cater for all
interests so, if you wish to visit the famous sites of Mycenae
and Epidavros, cruise to some of the other Saronic islands, or
simply eat, drink, and dance the night away under the velvet Mediterranean
sky, we will be able to advise you of the best way to do it. We
can also tell you how to visit some of our local beauty spots,
help you to hire a car or small boat, or simply explain some of
the mysteries of the local way of life here on Poros! Come and
meet us, whatever your questions or problems we like to think
we can help.

Poros
is a small island in the Saronic gulf about 55 minutes from Piraeus
by flying dolphin or a more leisurely 2 1/2 hours on one of the
luxury air conditioned ferry boats. Situated only two minutes
by taxi boat from mainland Greece, it is ideally placed for you
to explore the Peloponnese by local bus, hire car or guided tour.
There is easy access also to other Saronic gulf islands and to
more distant places such as Monemvasia and Nafplion. Poros itself
is really two islands joined by a small bridge.

Sferia,
the smaller of the two islands, is where you will find the
old town and the busy harbour which bustles all day as the
ferry boats come and go. The other, larger island of Kalavria
is covered with extensive areas of pine forest but it also
contains the three other village areas of Askeli, Neorion
and Sinikismos whilst up in the mountains you will find the
temple of Poseidon, a large farming area and some spectacular

across the Saronic gulf. Transport is plentiful and inexpensive
and there are many traditional tavernas and bars. Poros has
been used by the Athenians for many years so the Poriotes
are well used to holiday atmosphere. Many people come back
year after year to the delight of the islanders! Although
quite a busy little island, it has not been spoilt by tourism
and much of traditional Greece is still evident even after
many years of looking after people from all over the world.
We think this is a delightful little island - why not come
and find out for our selves ? |
