Vagionia is a beautiful and quiet beach with sand and pebbles situated in the northern part of the island, ideal for relaxing holidays and all kinds of fishing, especially snorkeling.
The beach is very clean and is located in the bay of Vagionia, facing the open sea and is opposite the island of Aegina and Piraeus.
A sunken city is found at the sea bottom of Vagionia where one can even distinguish the cobblestone roads and the foundations of ancient households.
The bay of Vagionia is of special archaeological interest, because there was the ancient port that served the temple of Poseidon from 1,000 BC to about 150 BC.
In modern history the bay was used as a base for the famous "Barbarinon" pirates from 1200 to 1400 AD. For this reason, in modern nautical charts, the bay of Vagionia is also referred to as the bay of Barbarias.
To come from the port of Poros to Vagionia, after passing the small bridge, keep left heading for Sinikismo and follow the twisting road among large pine trees which leads you to the restaurant "Paradeisos".
